The university library extends a range of services to support both students and faculty members. The most significant services include:

  • Borrowing Services and Regulations:

Faculty and administrative staff, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students, are eligible for book borrowing services. The lending process for library resources is subject to a number of rules governing and regulating it as follows:

  1. Faculty and graduate students can borrow up to 20 books for one month, with an option to renew for an additional month. Bachelor’s students can borrow 10 books for two weeks, extendable for another two weeks.

  2. Failure to return books prompts a notice, and if not returned within a week, borrowing privileges may be revoked.

  3. Unavailable for borrowing are: encyclopedias, references, periodicals, and university theses. Lost books incur fines, determined by the book type.

  4. Repeat offenders may face doubled fines if they lose or damage library items more than once in an academic year.

  5. Students or faculty members cannot be released until all borrowed books are returned.

  • Electronic Library Service:

  1. Automated Search System: Computers assist patrons in searching for books by title, author, or topic. Training is provided on utilizing the automated index.

  2. University Website: Access to electronic resources through the university’s website, including periodicals, the Hadith Symposium, and important books.

  3. Internet Searching: Computers with internet access are available for students and faculty.

  4. Free Websites: Access to free websites, including a collection of floppy disks.

  5. Study Retreat Service:

   – Eight study retreats are available for individual or group use.

   – Reservation statements must be filled out, and specific rules, such as no food or drinks, must be adhered to.

   – The library reserves the right to open the retreats as needed.

  1. Photocopying Service: Available to everyone, allowing the photocopying of up to 5 books by depositing an ID in the library.

  2. Digital Photography Service: Scanning service using the Zeta scanner, enabling users to save images on flash memory or send them via email without printing.

  3. Reference Service: The library provides reference services, such as directing researchers to the references and resources they need. The library also trains freshers at the beginning of each academic year on how to use the automated search system, introducing them to the library systems to enable them to make good use of the library’s collections and services to achieve their actual desired needs.

  4. Library’s Relationship with External Parties:

The university library and the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage are linked to one automated catalogue that brings their resources together. The human culture content at the Centre and the University, with its diverse collections of books, periodicals, and university dissertations, is indexed and arranged according to the international standards adopted for indexing and classified according to the latest editions of Dewey Al-Ashry in one system, which is the Al-Majed Information System. Among the services provided by the library through the centre:

  1. The centre offers a service of supplementing the library’s collection with books and periodicals that are currently unavailable. A book photocopy request can be made by researchers, including students, faculty, or administrative staff. The request involves filling out a form, and the administration reviews and processes the request.

  2. The centre offers a service for the maintenance and binding of books and periodicals requiring protection from damage.

  3. Additionally, the centre provides a service specifically for binding books and periodicals in need of protection from damage.

  • New Arrivals Service: This service informs the teaching staff about the latest books through email announcements.
