As part of its Alwasl strategies to enhance the scientific and cultural level of community members and contribute to building a knowledge-based economy driven by research and innovation, the Mohammed bin Rashid Library and Al-Wasl University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This important step aims to strengthen cooperation and integration between educational, cultural, and knowledge-based institutions through the implementation of various programs, training, activities, and events that contribute to developing students’ skills in line with future needs.
The signing of the agreement was attended by Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrouei, a member of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library, Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Abdulrahman, President of Al-Wasl University, along with a number of senior officials and staff from both sides, as well as several students from Al-Wasl University.
Dr. Mohammed Al Mazrouei emphasized the Mohammed bin Rashid Library’s commitment to expanding its knowledge partnerships with national institutions, as well as creating a unique space for knowledge exchange in relevant fields. This will contribute to enhancing innovation and supporting academic research at the national level.
He pointed out that the library seeks to provide a rich and advanced educational environment, combining the latest academic resources, references, and modern technologies. This, in turn, contributes to enabling students and institutions to access reliable knowledge and apply it across various fields.
He also mentioned that the library now holds over 800 million electronic resources in more than 90 global languages, along with 8 databases containing numerous resources, including doctoral and master’s theses.
This vast wealth of resources will undoubtedly support our students in their academic journey, helping them develop the knowledge needed to lead the developmental renaissance across all fronts over the next fifty years, in alignment with the “We the UAE 2031” vision.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Abdulrahman, President of Al-Wasl University, stated that the university is keen on fostering closer ties with cultural and scientific institutions in the community, especially with an organization like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library, given its advanced, smart, and comprehensive capabilities, as well as its diverse sources of knowledge.
He explained that there are many areas of collaboration, including academic aspects, such as field training for students in the Library and Information Science Department, as well as research cooperation, including organizing specialized seminars and conferences.
The university has also developed annual research plans that address topics and issues relevant to the UAE, in addition to activities that ensure effective and successful community engagement, contributing to bridging the gap between the academic world and the job market.
It is worth noting that this year, Al-Wasl University celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of students from the Library and Information Science program, a pioneering program in the UAE. The program is distinguished by its alignment with the needs of the UAE job market, in light of the tremendous growth of libraries, information centers, national archives, and documentation centers across various state institutions.
