the 12th Prophetic Hadith International Symposium
Sustainable Development in the Prophetic Sunnah: Reality and Prospects
February 19-20, 2025
Preamble to the Symposium:
The tolerant Sharia, together with the Noble Qur’an and the prophetic Sunnah, came to free minds calling for research, meditation, and thinking. It addresses and guides the mind, enlightens the way to think, hope, and as far as human fulfilment is concerned, develops and achieves a moral and ethical atmosphere. This will be possible only by returning to the texts of the revelation and making the best use of them, to address emerging challenges at all levels.
When we investigate the history of the Prophet’s biography, many facts become clear, including: How the messenger was keen to support his companions, and how he cared about their upbringing and education. Thus, he made them more hardworking, more faithful, efficient, and giving to themselves and their community, keen to support what we call in our contemporary reality “the theory of Sustainable Development”. Such theory is expressed as: “A set of vital processes that provide the means of life for living organisms of various kinds, helping them to maintain succession of generations and develop their means of development over time”. This is what the individual, the family, and society really need, to develop today’s reality into the reality that they dream of–a reality in which all the causes of poverty, destitution, and laziness are eroded, to achieve sustainable development.
The Prophetic Sunnah Research Centre, Al Wasl University, Dubai, therefore considered that the title of the 12th Symposium should be (“Sustainable Development in the Prophetic Sunnah: Reality and Prospects”), to be a fertile field of knowledge, a scientific research environment in which researchers of the prophetic Sunnah meet to enrich the symposium’s activities with their deep thoughts and good opinions. It is all about serving the Prophet’s Sunnah and serving modern society.
