Overview of the College of Arts

The College of Arts (Faculty of Arts) was established based on Ministerial Decision No. 107 issued by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research on April 8, 2019, regarding the licensing of Al Wasl University to become an institution of higher education based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

To qualify quality graduates in undergraduate and postgraduate programs to meet the future needs of the job market in the Emirati, regional, and global societies.

In line with the vision and mission of the College of Arts, the college’s programs aim to:

Prepare a generation that adheres to Arab-Islamic values ​​and noble human principles.

Provide qualified outputs to serve the Arabic language through research and teaching and advance it towards global standards.

Consolidate the principle of coexistence among languages, cultures, and civilizations.

Promote Arabic literature and open up to global literature.

Enhance the unity of general education and provide all available means to develop performance in English, computer science, programming, and languages.

Qualify competent graduates in all college specialties.

Encourage distinguished scientific research in all college specialties.

Academic  Programs

The college has six accredited academic programs, five of which are under the Department of Arabic Language and Literature:

Undergraduate Programs:

Bachelor in Arabic Language and Literature

Bachelor in Library and Information Sciences

Postgraduate Programs:

Master of Arabic Language and Literature, specializing in Linguistic Studies or Literary and Critical Studies.

Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistic Studies.

Doctor of Philosophy in Arabic Literary and Critical Studies.

These six programs are supported by a specialized teaching staff with diverse sub-specialties and schools, on the one hand, and integration on the other.

Graduation of more than six thousand students to date, who spread its message throughout the region, and currently approximately one thousand students benefit from its resources, and interest in it is increasing, with the help of God, and the generosity of those in charge, who spread knowledge and goodness without limit.

May Allah protect this promising institution, and protect the city of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, and those responsible for each of them.

Activities and Achievements

The college has conducted many scientific activities, including:

The first international conference on the Arabic language was held on November 18-19, 2020, with the participation of researchers from many Arab and non-Arab countries and multiple universities.

The second international conference on the Arabic language, scheduled for November 2022, is being prepared.

A joint seminar with the Dubai Cultural and Scientific Seminar entitled: The Function of Literary Criticism among Arabs between the Ancient and Modern, was held on 2/10/2021 (researchers from the college and administration from the seminar participated).

The first international symposium on linguistics was held on June 10, 2021, with researchers from three universities from Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Britain participating.

The credit hours system was activated in the Arabic Language Department starting from the first year of the current academic year 2022/2023.

Other activities are planned for this semester in cooperation with the Graduate Studies Deanship and the Linguistic and Narrative Studies Center.
